Excellence in Public Service Reception, John Glenn School of Public Policy, May 18th, 2006
The Ohio State University's John Glenn School of Public Policy hosted their sixteenth annual Excellence in Public Service Reception, honoring Dr. Leonard Haynes III, Director for the Fund for the Improvement of Post secondary Education in the Department of Education's Office of Post secondary Education, on Thursday, May 18th, 2006. The award is presented to individuals who demonstrate a commitment to serve their communities through their professional work. Recognized for his work in the educational community at large, Dr. Haynes has provided wise counsel and technical assistance for many important organizations and groups including the Education Commission of the States, The National Educational Goals Panel, the Embassy of Canada, the Merck Corporation, Coors, The Ford and Mott Foundations, and numerous other institutions and organizations in both the non-profit and private sectors
The annual Excellence in Public Service Reception provides the opportunity to strengthen the School’s, and the University’s ties to Washington, D.C. It also serves as a showcase for the Washington Academic Internship Program, a cornerstone of the John Glenn School, which allows OSU undergraduates from any major to spend a quarter studying and working in our nation’s capital.

The Third Annual Stanley Muroff Forum: Education as a Civil Right -- Political and Economic Lessons from California, May 11, 2006
The John Glenn School of Public Affairs hosted the Third Annual Stanley Muroff Forum at Page Hall on Ohio State University's main campus. The forum featured Professor Michael Trevińo, Assistant Dean of the Goldman School of Public Policy, University of California, Berkeley. Professor Treviño’s academic interests include law and higher education policy, particularly as they relate to equal opportunity and access issues, and the educational value of diversity. An active participant in the Harvard Civil Rights Project and the American Council on Education, he has helped design processes to promote diversity within the changing legal environment.
An alumnus of U.C. Berkeley and former Harvard Administrative Fellow, Professor Treviño has held previous appointments at Harvard University Graduate School of Education, Boston University School of Law, and the University of Washington. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Berkeley Center for Latino Policy Research, and also currently serves on the Chancellor and Academic Senate Diversity Project Committee.
As Assistant Dean of the Goldman School of Public Policy, Professor Treviño has administrative responsibility for student affairs, admissions, career and alumni services, and GSPP’s Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute.
The Second Annual Stanley Muroff Forum: Law and terror - The Balance of Liberty and Security After 9/11, May 24, 2005
The second annual Stanley Muroff Forum was held at Page Hall on Ohio State University's main campus, and hosted by the John Glenn School of Public Policy. The forum featured Mr. Jess Bravin, Senior Special Writer for The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Bravin was recently appointed The Supreme Court correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, and has covered extensively the legal side of the war on terrorism focusing on the intersection of national security and civil liberties.
For the past several years, Mr. Bravin has written about military tribunals, war crimes and prisoner abuse. Previously, he was WSJ's California editor and has written for publications including Harper's Bazaar, Spy Magazine, and The Washington Post. Mr. Bravin was educated at harvard and Berkeley. He earned his law degree from Boalt Hall and served on the University of California's Board of Regents and as a police review commissioner for the City of Berkeley. He is the author of Squeaky: The Life and Times of Lynette Alice Fromme, a biography of President Ford's would-be-assassin. He is currently working on a book about Guantanamo military commissions enemy combatants.
The Stanley Muroff Forum: Focus on Civil Liberties and Civil Rights, April 30, 2004
The John Glenn School hosted a forum on Civil Liberties and Civil Rights at The Ohio State University's main campus. The forum featured the OSU faculty from a variety of fields, and recent university alumni who also participated in the Institute's Washington Academic Internship Program as part of their undergraduate preparation. The participants explored contentious, important, and highly relevant issues related to the protection of civil liberties and civil rights. More.
Breakfast Briefing with the Ohio State University Alumni Club of Washington, D.C., April 18, 2004

Over 40 members of the Ohio State University Alumni Club of Washington, D.C. joined the Spring 2004 Glenn Fellows and other program alumni working in the Washington area for a breakfast briefing at the Institute's Washington office. Members of the club support the program in many ways, and the Glenn Fellows benefit from their generosity each quarter through funded enrichment tours, listening to alumni as guest speakers in seminar, or working with OSU alumni as their field placement.
The students enjoyed talking about their specific interests in public service and public policy and their current internships, while the program alumni shared their career goals and the significant changes that the Washington academic experience brought to their professional life. The informal gathering provided an excellent opportunity for Glenn Fellows to interact with local Ohio State alumni for professional advice and the chance to exchange experiences from undergraduate days.
Washington Policy Salons
The Program is proud to host this quarterly series of talks on a wide range of timely public policy issues by media experts, public servants, academicians, and researchers. Past speakers include alumni of The Ohio State University currently engaged in public service in Washington, and faculty representing various academic disciplines from The Ohio State University, University of California's Berkeley campus, George Washington University, and National Defense University.

End of Term Receptions
The Program hosts a series of quarterly receptions towards the conclusion of each term with Senator and Mrs. Glenn as special guests, to honor the current class of Glenn Fellows and express gratitude to their internship supervisors, docents who lead study tours of different museums and historic sites, seminar speakers, and friends of the Institute.
